why “elizabeth consecrated”?

so!

I am ELIZABETH.

And here is a secret…growing up I never understood why my parents named me my particular name ~ELiZABETH~

To my child brain, it sounded long, intimidating, too girly, fancy, just TOO MUCH!

And to make it more annoying, I’m such a name person. I’m always looking up names and their origins, meanings, etc. If I meet some one that peaks my interest, I’ll pull up Google and search their name meaning, origin, etc.

Yep, i’m that extreme about it.

It’s not so fun for “name” people to not so much care for their name. RiGHT?

BUT NOW…

At the magical age of 23, I decided that the meaning of my name is MARVELOUS and maybe it is long and fancy and womanly BUT I want to OWN it.

Elizabeth is a Biblical name with Hebrew origins. When my mother named us (that being my 3 brothers & I) she included one Hebrew name in each of our names, whether it was first or middle.

Elizabeth means:

God is satisfaction/abundance; consecrated to God

What does consecrated mean?

  • It means to ‘make or declare sacred’
  • To devote or dedicate to a purpose, usually a divine purpose.

I strive to remember every day that within my name is a reminder that God is my SATISFACTION and I will not be satisfied outside of Him. I strive to remember that God gave me not only life, but ABUNDANT life. I strive to remember that I must be DEVOTED to God in my purpose and DEDICATED to Him no matter how hard it might be at the time.

We can’t decide our name. Those around before we are born are left with that responsibility. But now, finally, after all those years of feeling itchy in my name and demanding to be called ‘Liz’, I am so thankful God spoke the name Elizabeth into my mom’s heart and gave it to me.

All of that is wrapped up in 9 beautiful letters!

HAPPY NAMING!

xo,

EC.
